Sean Lawless, MD obtained a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in biological sciences at Cornell University and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He also completed an internal medicine categorical residency at Tulane University and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center. He is board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine (internal medicine and cardiovascular disease certifications). He is also board certified with the National Board of Echocardiography (with special competence in adult echocardiography) and the Alliance for Physician Certification & Advancement (certification board of nuclear cardiology, certification board of cardiovascular computed tomography.)

From a young age, Dr. Lawless knew he wanted to pursue a career in medicine because his father was a physician as well and served as an inspiration. In medicine, Dr. Lawless has found a path that has provided the intellectual complexity, creative autonomy, and significant human connection he wanted from his professional career. He enjoys working in cardiology as it offers a wealth of variety and requires life-long learning and practice. As a cardiologist, Dr. Lawless believes that building strong relationships founded on mutual respect and trust is vital in helping patients make necessary lifestyle and medical choices. Offering relief and prolonged health to his patients has been the most rewarding aspect of his life.

I chose to become a physician because I aimed to be a protector for patients and because I craved a lifetime of diverse learning,” said Dr. Lawless. “I wanted to be able to treat patients throughout the natural course of their illnesses, across the spectrum of disease severity and in a multitude of environments. I wanted to be their intellectual conduit to medical advice and their emotional support. I desired to be an advocate, interpreter, and teacher for my patients in a frequently uncertain, constantly evolving medical world.

When he is not taking care of patients, Dr. Lawless enjoys skiing, playing basketball and football, dancing, hiking, playing board games, and watching movies.

Dr. Lawless’ Basin appointments are on the 2nd Monday of every even month.
