John Wells, MD, FAWM

Family Medicine | Chief of Medical Staff

Dr. John Wells has been a dedicated member of the Uintah Basin Healthcare medical staff since 2011. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University, Dr. Wells attended medical school at the University of Toledo in Ohio, followed by a three-year residency at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana. He is dual board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS).

As a family practitioner and the Medical Director of the Rural Health Clinics in Roosevelt, Vernal, and Duchesne, Dr. Wells is passionate about caring for patients through all of life’s adventures. He treats everyone from newborns in the nursery to outdoor enthusiasts who may have met with misadventure on the trail. His personal love for hiking, 4-wheeling, and geocaching led him to become a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM), providing him with specialized expertise in treating injuries sustained in the backcountry.

Beyond his local practice, Dr. Wells serves as the Chief of Medical Staff for UBH. He is fluent in Spanish—a skill fostered during a two-year religious mission to Argentina and a summer spent working in an orphanage in La Paz, Bolivia with his wife, Emilee. Dr. Wells frequently organizes and leads international medical missions to Honduras and Guatemala and has provided critical disaster relief in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Ukraine. Dr. Wells, Emilee, and their six children are avid travelers who enjoy exploring the Basin, local mountains, and new cultures together.
