Dr. John Wells, MD, loves living in the Basin. After a bachelor degree from BYU, four years in medical school at the University of Toledo in Ohio, and three more years in residency at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana he moved to the basin with his family in 2011. As a family practitioner, he is excited to care for patients in all their adventures of life, whether they are babies having their first doctor’s visit in the newborn nursery, nervous kids getting ready for the first day of school, pre-teens and teenagers needing sports physicals, travelers needing consultation and vaccinations before they head off to exotic (and not-so-exotic) destinations, or outdoor enthusiasts right here in the Basin who may have met with misadventure. His love of hiking, 4-wheeling, geocaching, and other outdoor activities has led him to become a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine. As the medical director of the Uintah Basin Healthcare Hospice team and a certified Hospice Medical Director, Dr. Wells appreciates the opportunity to help ease hospice patients and their families through their last months.

Dr. Wells is fluent in Spanish, and he keeps his language skills in use by organizing and leading international medical missions. He, his lovely wife, and six children have had a great time exploring the Basin and mountains and participating in medical relief missions.
