Dr. Baum attended the University of Utah, where he received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He served on active duty in the United States Army from 1989-1992, then worked for several years as an engineer developing flight simulators, before deciding to pursue a medical career. After receiving his MD degree from the University of Michigan, he completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Utah.
