Lauren Bishop, MD

Get To Know Your Provider

Lauren Bishop recently completed her surgical residency at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in New York City where she served as Chief Resident in her final year. Training in New York provided Dr. Bishop with a unique opportunity to gain exposure to many different people, advanced pathologies, and surgical techniques. Her primary training was at a community safety net hospital where she provided care to some of the most under-served populations in New York.

In addition, Lauren Bishop’s program provided the unique opportunity to rotate to 7 other hospitals throughout the years, gaining experience in many different types of institutions (high volume surgical hospitals, academic and research centers, and level I trauma centers). Lauren is excited to take everything she learned during her training and help serve the Basin community.

Lauren Bishop was raised in Greenville, South Carolina where most of her family and husband’s family still live. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Clemson University in 2015. She went on to attend Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. After her first year of medical school, the island was hit by a Category V hurricane and she was evacuated after being stranded on the island for a week. The school was destroyed and she completed the rest of the semester on a cruise ship off the coast of St. Kitts before relocating to Knoxville, Tennessee to complete her didactic years. Dr. Bishop then did her clinical rotations in New York through the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite all of the curve-balls thrown her way, Lauren was very grateful to match at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she went on to complete her surgical training and participate in multiple research publications during her time there. She loves all general surgeries (hernia, gallbladder, appendix, breast, skin, soft tissue, etc). Dr. Bishop is very grateful to be joining a hospital where she will be able to practice true general surgery for a wide variety of cases.

In her spare time, Lauren loves to snowboard with her husband. She has also competed in the NYC Marathon twice, continues to enjoy running and loves Pilates. She loves a great skincare regimen, a good book, and Taylor Swift. Lauren looks forward to getting to know you all as we make the move to Roosevelt!
