Russ was born and raised in Utah. He grew up loving sports. In High School he played golf, basketball, and ran track. He was the 3A State MVP his senior year in basketball and was a 3 time State Champion and State Record Holder in the 800 meters in track. Following high school Russ attended BYU and majored in Athletic Training. He also ran track for BYU, serving as the team captain his senior year. Russ was the WAC champion in the 800 meters 3 times, narrowly missing qualifying for the USA Olympic Trials in 1988.
Russ attended the University of Utah to earn his PT degree. He has worked for UBMC as a Physical Therapist since 1998. He and his wife, Lana, have 3 wonderful children. He loves the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, sightseeing, cooking, barbecuing, and taking people fishing. He has enjoyed his time in Roosevelt and loves treating the residents of the Uintah Basin.
